Eat more plants!!
This is a two part habit. First part is increasing your variety in plant based foods. Plant based foods are any WHOLE, NATURAL foods made from plants: Fruits, Vegetables, Nuts, Seeds, Herbs, Spices, Teas, and oils.
A variety of plant based foods greatly improves your gut microbiome. Recent studies have put the spotlight on healthy gut bacteria and its role in weight loss. Aim for a variety of 30 different plant based foods a week. This sounds daunting but easy ways to get more plant based foods is alternating your fruits and vegetables at each meal, have 3-4 different selections of nuts and seeds each week(almonds, chia, sunflower) , cook with a variety of healthy oils (olive, coconut, avocado), experiment with different Teas, put plants in your smoothie (psylum husk, flax) and buy the mixed bags of frozen vegetables. There are a lot of different varieties.
Second part is making sure half your plate, at each meal, is filled with vegetables. Eating more vegetables at each meal means your crowding out the other less healthy options that tend to fill our stomachs. Focus on getting in a rainbow of color each day and this will also count towards your goal of variety.
