What Makes a “Good” Goal? with Coach Ashley

Hey friends, Coach Ashley here!

In case you missed it, our head coach, Lisa, is heading up a 100 day challenge! Read more about it HERE. After seeing all of the great feedback and eager participation, I felt a strong conviction to share some encouragement with you all! The basis of this challenge was deemed totally and completely up to you. Maybe you want to track your food diligently for 100 days, or see a difference in your weight. Or maybe you simply want to drink more water for 100 days. Regardless of the specific goal, I wanted to remind everyone that no matter where you’re at in your journey, you are one day closer to where you want to be. One step further than yesterday.

Focusing on your goal weight as a whole can be intimidating. So treat each day as a stepping stone. One step at a time. One day at a time. Start with your first five pounds, then ten. If you have 50, 70, 100 pounds to lose, break that up into smaller goals and go for one at a time. Think about some of those NSVs (Non Scale Victories) that you’re ready for, or that you’ve already reached! (Crossing my legs comfortably was by far one of my favorite NSVs!)

You won’t get to where you want to be without doing what you can today. So today matters too, just like tomorrow and the next day. Having a “bad day” can happen. Going off track happens. It doesn’t have to work against you over and over. Track it and move on. Do better not even tomorrow but on your next meal too. I think many of us have picked up that thing we shouldn’t have.. and we feel like we “failed” so we either continue like that for the day or even the next few days. We say we will try better tomorrow. But why not the next meal? You don’t have to let your whole day go because of one decision, get back to it on that next meal! It all adds up. Every little bit of it.

It’s not just about reaching that goal.. It’s about what you’re doing for your body right now. All the little changes here and there add up to a healthier you. You’re building healthy, sustainable habits. I really believe that enjoying your weight loss journey is key. I think if you just stop, take a breath and focus on the NOW, you’ll succeed.

Because if you think about it.. there really is no end game. You don’t do the work, lose weight and say “okay, I’m done!” It’s something you will have to stick with and work at for life. And I don’t mean that in a bad way at all. I’m more than okay with it because I know it’s what keeps me healthy. I know I’ve learned these healthy behaviors along the way that I will keep for life. I took the time to figure out how to make this something I will sustain for life, because I knew that if I enjoyed it, I’d stay with it.

Knowing that I’ve made all these changes and all these great choices to get me where I am motivates me to stay with it. Being able to sit here and say “wow, look what I did for ME” is so encouraging and I know that with that mind set, I will continue to maintain. And you can too, we all can. Find recipes and snacks you love, make some healthier changes and substitutions so you can eat what you love and enjoy this journey. It really is all about your journey and how you make it. Make it fun, make it sustainable. Do this for YOU!

Happy Tracking!
